33. I am from Monterey County. I used to live on Chews Ridge in Los Padres Nation forest, and I remember the year the cartel came knocking on everyone's doors looking to lease land to grow. Everyone I knew ran them off with no's, and started closing and locking gates and staying armed at all times.

    The following fall, a HUGE bust happened somewhere in a valley below my ridge, and it took 3 days of a helicopter lifting pipes, tanks, bags of trash and Marijuana plants out in bundles larger than my 80's F series truck.

    The week before the helicoper came, the Mung people who live in the trees in those woods went weird-parking their cars 2 or more miles from their living sites, and the characters got super paranoid and dangerous. When the bust happened it made it make sense, but the arrests were all Latin American from what the law enforcement told me when I spoke to them.

    Apparently the bust only happened because a tagged animal drowned in a tank with herbacide in it, and the tracking tag led law enforcement straight to the grow op camp.

    Keep fighting the good fight, we all celebrated those horrendously aweful humans going away from our little rural community.
