21 thoughts on “Answering YOUR Gardening Questions! (Q&A #11) – From The Stash Podcast Ep.211

  1. Ive done research of looking it up it can be genetic like hereditary but i also saw that it can be caused from lack of sterile equipment when defoliation is being done

  2. I think pigeons could be partially correct about the purple stems. When temperatures get low the cells walls of the plant become more stiff and brittle, some strains produce anthocyanins as like a form of antifreeze which keeps the cells more flexible. These compounds also cause purple colouration. When plants are short and stocky they don't tend to get purple stems but when they get tall and swishy enough the stems are constantly bending as they move in the wind. This could cause a response from the plant to prevent breakages.

  3. I get purple stems alot and it stunts the growth , i believe it's due to my high ph water , I've since added fish fertilizer to bring it down not enough to truly feed jusr enough to bring ph down to 6.5 or so . Then I'll get healthy green growth and will grow again, when purple it doesn't grow much very stunted.

  4. Flushing? People really dont understand: stop feeding last couple of weeks in flower. Organically, you dont have to do anything. Keep watering and let the plant take up what it wants. Just cause there's a plate of food next to you doesnt mean you have to eat it! A lot of these issues are common sense imo💚

  5. I scream it from the rooftops I’m not a hippie, but I grow organic because I work six days a week and in all honesty, you should grow what way is best for you. I grow my best plants and organic I suck at Coco.

  6. Ive gotten HLV before and want to give my advice to you guys who are worried about getting it and how to identify it.

I got HLV from working at a commercial cultivation facility and unfortunately brought to my plants at home (im clean now)
First things first unfortunately the virus can attach to things and infect your plants later like Scissors, tables, walls and such so if your getting equipment or cuts from another person or place be sure to clean equipment (has to be bleach) and quarantine the cut until you are sure its clean.

Now how to identify it obviously getting the cut tested is the best but it can be easy to identify with
•putting pressure on a node, if it peels off it could have it
    • HLV will sometimes make plants grow differently ( the branches will grow at an angle very spider like (some genetics will naturally do that too so just be aware of that)
    •stunting growth

These tips helped me alot going from having a hard time with it to being completely clean of it

  7. When growing in a high tunnel or green house a lot of farmers graft there tomatoes for a variety of benefits. Do you think there would be benefits to grafting the plant we all know and love?
