It's a great achievement, but calling him a 'Chinese Villager' is a bit of an exaggeration. They invested $1 billion in developing it – you make it sound like he just walked in from the rice fields!
I recently heard a news segment in which Danis Hassabis told the reporter that DeepSeek has done nothing impressive. I am very disappointed at Nobel Laurate's attitude toward DeepSeek. DeepSeek is indeed a new way of looking at LLMs. If it was not a new outlier as Hassabis claims, then why did major AI companies missed releasing DeepSeek type model? Deep diving into the white paper will show the novelty of DeepSeek, which is being replicated by Silicon Valley itself.
