The "wrong" side of thirty??? Louaista, that sentiment is contributing to the problem you're talking about🤷🏾♀️
Rap is the only music genre that has an age issue, strange
We don’t have a new solidified superstar because they all sadly past away😓
I can’t stand jay z he’s so gross and weird to me
14:55 conspiracy much?🤔 Hmmmm😏
When I was coming up in the 90s and early 2000's, all we saw of rappers was from CDs and Magazines. We thought rappers were like Super Heroes.
Now everything is filmed and because of social media, we have learned not only are they not the super manly-men that we used to believe, but in actuality a lot of them are not even straight lol, and there is proof.
Nowadays am on the verge of dropping the hip hop and rap in one
It’s dying there’s no denying that
Juice and X would have been great to hand the torch to RIP
Wow. an age shaming hit piece on true artist instead of admitting this generations artist are failing. Getting upset that Eminem and Nas are alive and well and can still put out excellent music and out rhyme anyone from this generation and telling them to now " retire" to give this generation a chance is ridiculous. Millennials had to create their own lanes amongst Gen X rappers that are still dominating ( Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Drake, JCole, etc) and this generation is no exception!
As artists mature they should make more mature music. So simple
48 isn't middle age (45 year old speaking). You're over half way through, middle-aged problems and attitudes are not a thing by 42 at most, and you start looking at the issues of the elderly 😂
Kendrick ruined drakes “graceful exit”
Maybe the next generation of greats is meant to include women
The people who still are inspired to the OGs, the lyricism and still embraced the new are REAL
Denzel Curry
JID
Westside Boogie
Joey Bada$$
Little Simz
Cordae
Smino
Check out Pete & Bas. They are 70 year olds from the UK that rap and all of their songs are fire! These guys are proof there is no age cut-off in rap and hip hop.
"weezy F Baby
And the F
Ain't for fretirement"
IMO X,Juice, Peep,Pop Were the next ones up for real.
Uzi not top 5 up next but was a candidate that lost momentum.
Melly was up but his situation bad
Pollo G slowed down significantly
Kodak in a worring situation after another.
21 Savage the only consistent one so far.
Lil Baby,Da baby, Roddy Ricch lost momentum
The others are not in any form of epic run like the ones I named.
Post Malone abandoned Hip Hop.
Honestly, all of " new comers " are dying from either gang banging, or drugs, or being put in jail and it's ashame.
i feel like carti could be the new generation
Eminem about to drop a nursery rhyme album next year
The problem is I’m 38 the majority of rappers when I was growing up we’re good whereas you younger generations only have a handful of rappers that are even good.
Rap smap!😂
I'm not in total agreement here but I got props to this young man's rap journalism
Lmao drake shouldve taken that graceful exit before the kendrick beef. Because the boys gonna hold that like the worst shit stain on a silk shirt
I kinda disagree to an extent. There should be no age limit as long as your content has changed over the years. I was a huge Em fan in high school when he was first starting, but I'm 42 now, I wanna hear him being a grandpa and how he's dealing with life today. If you still trying to tell me about going to the club or selling crack then yes just retire.
age has nothing to do with it. if you require the old guys to retire to have an audience, then youre not good, you need a hand hold.
Part of the issue is that hip hop is so young to begin with.. we’re entering a time where there is huge number of rap fans over 40 and even 50 years old. Thats never happened before!!! The SoundCloud/Tik Toc rappers ( while talented 💯 ) are so vastly different in terms of content, cadence, timing, subject matter and lyrical ability that it’s hard for veteran hip hop fans to get on board with.
There is room for both.. I think the New Age Rap should actually be categorized as that since it is so different from traditional rap or hip hop. Most new rappers couldn’t even compete in a real rap battle ( Not Because They Suck ) just because that’s how much rap has changed with auto tuning, mumble rap, harmonizing, etc.. it’s a different landscape than what it was founded on and because of that, there’s always gonna be a fanbase for the older era of rap music. I’m a fan of both but that’s just how I see it!! 🤷🏽♂️
Hiphop juat needs good unique music which its out there i find new artists regularly. I think the formula for success has changed and only certain people are navigating that properly
What about kodak?!?!?!!?!
All these rappers and celebrities are losing their pull.. social media exposes all these disgusting clowns, they can no longer hide who they are.. and their endorsements mean nothing.. look at Obama, look at JayZ ..
jcole not in no big 3 wtf
How whiny and entitled! No where in history did people just give up what they do or have because of age. You want what someone already has, you had better be willing to fight like hell for it.
The old British duo Pete & Bass put your whole age theory into question, and maybe into the dust. Edit: they are 2 old ass dudes from London who rap hardcore as fuk. And they’re very very good.
It’s when they get the money, it changes the character and way of being. They lose their ways and things start to get shaky. I’m just confused to the fact that everybody complain about not having money but they supporting these mfs so they can buy expensive things and then they start to act like they better then us, like gtfoh
they won't retire because streaming essentially means they make money from the whole catalog they already sold as albums. New concerts/releases are just promoting the catalog for oldheads, but young rappers dont have the catalog of hits subsidising, or the upfront cash an Eminem used to get. Tough for new talent.
The NBA has the same problem. The NBA got no one to replace Lebron, Steph and KD. I think its interesting cause basketball and rap always seemed enter twined.
If people wants to rap at 50 let them if they genuinely just want to make music who cares
We grow up with the artist
Old heads dont need to hang it up, the culture is just disrespectful to aging rappers. Rap is ever evolving and each gen is gonna have their own icons, but there is no need to clown old heads for not selling like they did when they debuted. At some point new fans taper off and you just have your core. Make your music for them.
4:06 "Where do I sit?" Is another way of saying you don't know your place. How can you stay in your lane if you don't know where it is? Not only is Andre extremely talented, but he's intelligent and humble as well
This video should be titled hip hop has a ageism problem instead but yeah, this video has a point
It’s cause the new age doesn’t want it like the old heads did. Great artist like JID have gone on record saying that they just want to stay in their lane and let their music do the talking, old heads let their music and promos do the talking. They were continuously grinding, doing tons of features, starting younger, learning faster. It’s just a different time and hip hop and rap is now finding its bottom out imo
That Vince staples guy is so arrogant. And very dumb person. He's not even 30 and he's already talking about what he's apparently going to be like in his 40s, so sure he won't be rapping then. Because he will have made enough money and will retire not for himself but for the good of the industry and society, the youth. What bs. This guy is a complete L. Rapping is a music art like singing, you don't grow out of it you grow with it. Plus none of us can know what can happen in our lives, especially not 10 15 20 yrs from now. This guy seriously be thinking he's like wayyyyy more special than everyone else, that he's a gift to the world – with his lyrical genius being relevant only until 40yo. After that, he won't have to "embarrass" himself anymore as 40plus rapper. This kid knows nothing, absolutely nothing. Really unbelievable. Since when are rappers lyrics over 40 irrelevant. Rap is about telling real life stories not that immature wannabe gangster lifestyle, thats popular music, thats what this idiot is probably referring to. He's no rapper, he's a pop artist. He doesn't even know what good rap, or good music in general, is. What a clown smh
So rap and hip hop is finally getting to where rock and metal has been for a while. The genre itself is getting old. That's not even a bad thing necessarily rock and metal are old but very much alive and same will go for rap music. People need to get over themselves with the Unc and oldhead stuff. When it sounds good it sounds good. There'll be some new genre that'll take rap's place in the spotlight but so what? Who cares? Depending on th circles you're in, some stuff still feels like it's the current thing, the "what's in now". Rock and metal concerts and records still attract and sell like hotcakes and the majority of people listening and attending those are still under 30.
I'm 25. Been listening to metal since i was 7. People were saying rock is dead since long before i was even born
Don't buy the misleading image or vibes that media tries to sell you about pretty much anything
X was the next one.
Ay how tf its released today if there are comments from 3 months
No it doesn’t. Society has a everything needs to be for me problem.
Rap has an underground problem. There is an INSANE amount of young talent no one listens to.
Like usual, age is more than just a number
Shut up unc
