  1. THE MARK VII was one of the BEST LOOKING and MOST POPULAR CARS from the 80s. Some of their biggest sales came from this model. It actually helped erode Cadillac's lead over Lincoln.

  2. we had an 80s Tercel in the mid 90s. We put 300,000 miles on it. It just wouldn't die and we never really did anything for it. It ran like a watch. Finally we decided we'll have to kill it so we drove it up into Northern California where it expired in Rio Hell. A town so sketch we asked where the best food in town was and they all said, "Oh yeah – the bowling alley." It was edible but not great. We finally got a bus out of there a few days later. It was a surreal witness of poverty. Now the town across the bridge, Scotia, had a better restaurant. It was the Company Town. The political economy up there is spooky AF. So our little Tercel might not have been pretty but it was nearly indestructible and brought us many adventures, even in its demise.

  3. One could say these vehicles were ugly and they wouldn't ve wrong, but I do have to say that if nothing else 80's cars had personality. Many were funny looking and of shoddy quality, but at least they were not a sea of silver, black or white slabs driving around like today. I remember when i bought my truck it came in white, black, 87 shades of silver and gray, and blue. I said, i want a blue one. Oh we can't even get those on the lot, just take your pick of silver ones 😂. I think mine is called "brilliant silver". At least it's a good reliable truck even though it's just another silver-gray box.

  4. You should have mentioned that the Cadillac Cimmaron was just a rebadged Chevy Cavalier with leather seats.
The LIncoln Mark VII was pretty badass even if you didnt like the styling.
The Yugos could go well over 300k miles with just regular maintenance but there were zero frills. The one thing people dont realize is that no one seems to follow maintenance schedules on any car. I've seen awesome cars in Pull-A-Parts with engines that show no oil changes giving the reason why they were there.

  5. I have 2 of the vehicles mentioned in the video: the AMC Eagle and the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe. In both cases, they're diecast cars. The 1980 AMC Eagle is made by Matchbox, while the Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe is a Hot Wheels car. The casting depicting the Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe is called the Chevy Stocker. As the name implies, the Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe I have is a Stock Car (NASCAR racer). There's no door lining on the sides of the Chevy Stocker casting. NASCAR race cars have their doors welded shut to better maintain the overall integrity of the car in the event of a crash. The only way to get in and out of the car is to climb through the driver's side window. The Aerocoupe was a fastback modification made to the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and Pontiac Grand Prix, designed specifically for NASCAR. The purpose of this was to improve aerodynamics in order to better compete with the Ford Thunderbird in NASCAR. My Hot Wheels Chevy Stocker is the reason why I love the Aerocoupe!

  6. I had a 1986 Chevy Nova hatchback. I'm in my 50s and this car still remains today the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned. It represented a joint venture between Toyota and Chevy, but I guess after Toyota saw the design they dumped the good luck aspect of their name and reverted back to the name Toyoda. The engine was made by Toyoda while the body was made by Chevy. Both components were unreliable trash. Every piece of that car was so badly designed that I literally had the brake hoses tear completely in two once while driving. And yes, you read that right. Hoses. That's what they stuck between brakeline and caliper, freaking rubber fiber hoses. The engine finally threw a rod and I scrapped the entire car for $50. Considered myself lucky for getting even that much out of it.

  7. my friend in high school had a five year old Tercel he bought for $200. It was so cheap because it "burned a bit of oil".

In fact, it burned (and leaked) so much engine oil that my friend rigged a hose and funnel through the cowl into the engine bay so whenever thee oil light came on he could top it up without even pulling over. Of course he and anybody who rode in the car smelled like burned engine oil, but as teenagers in a rural area with no public transit, just having the mobility was good enough!

  8. Wow, you have an ugly car syndrome. I actually drove several of those and at the time they were in style. About the "Ugly" Fiat Panda staying in production so long, that's because they sold like cupcakes, I had two of them, cheap and reliable transport.

  9. Rhetty : A little history on The Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe's and the Pontiac Grand Prix Areocoupe 2+2's, the Strange rear window was designed to help them keep up with Ford's Thunderbirds for Nascar racing, the Thunderbird was more aerodynamic at the time and were completely dominating all the high speed tracks, Daytona, Talladega, Michican etc, and the GM G body cars simply couldnt keep up with them, the GM G-Body cars suffered from aerodynamic drag and rear-end lift. the Fords were more "slippery" and their drivers could stay in the power through corners, the Grand Prix and Monte Carlo drivers needed to let off the throttle through the turns slowing them even more and left them trying to catch up to the Fords on the straights.. for the 86 season they designed a sloped rear window and shorter special deck lid to improve aerodynamics. it was a such a sucess that GM stayed with the design for the 87 season, GM only made them for 2 years 1986 &1987. the 1986 Monte Carlo SS are super rare as only 200 were made, in 1987 there were a little more than 6000 made, Pontiacs version the Grand Prix 2+2 Aerocoupe they made 1,225 total for both years, both the Chevy and Pontiacs are highly sought after by collectors …. GM's Buick & Oldmobile divisions whom were still running nascar racing at the time and did not make a G body Regal version for 86 or 87 that body was being phased out and most teams had switched to the LeSaber body which had better aerodynamics, Olds was also switching to the from the cutless G-body to the Delta 88 body which shared the same body style as the Buick, both had a sloped rear window and smaller trunk lid, some drivers still were using the Regal and Cutless for 86 but not enough for Buick or Olds to make a " special version " there is only 1 actual Buick Regal aerocoupe in existance that a guy had custom made and its has a special serial number made for it , everything else done to a Buick Regal or Olds Cutless G-body is a kit some now defunct company made you could buy to do a conversion, .back than ..and..well ….not too many people did … Remember this was the time when Nascar drivers drove cars that looked like what you could buy at the dealerships real sheet metal, no silly templates, or the same fiberglas body with just different graphics to make it " look" like a mustang or camero or toyota, manufactuers back than were more involved with nascar. had a big help in the design and supply of the cars bodies, …. now the engines, chassis, roll cages not so much, they were built by special builders to nascar specs and safety regs at the time and the motto back then was : "what won on sunday sold on monday" …. awesome vid by the way PS i used to work for a caddy dealer all the techs hated that Cadillac Cimarron and that gawd awful Cadillac Allanté
