Steve Jobs was never forced out of the company. He resigned after he got himself voted out of his leadership position. Also, the first Macintosh was not a hit product, but a market failure, just like most of Jobs' other creations. The Macintosh II from 1987 is what got the platform going.
that one newton image with the phone jacked in was from a stven sagel movie called under segie 2 dark territoy where a group of bad guys took over a train and hijacked a wepons earthqauke sattleitie in case you where wondering
The background music around ~7 – 8 minutes sounds like it was ripped from the microsoft flight sim menu.
It was a brilliant proof of concept that shouldn't have been for sale.
1986 – Apple saw the future. First iPad released in 2010. We still need better AI to be available. Seems google will solve that first.
I'm sure Isono would be proud to see his dream live on in the form of the iPhone and iPad.
@1:01 My main takeaway is that Apple decided to replace Ashton Kutcher with Bob Odenkirk.
What about general magic? You didn't bring up how they were in the process of creating it's a magic link when Apple supposedly all the sudden thought up the Newton out of thin air! Let's call it what it is the guys over at general magic or in the midst of creating the magic link when big shots at Apple seeing what they were able to create and what they were in the process of doing they started doing their own PDA but by no means was this just a case of some dreamer who thought up and incredible technologically advanced device! More like some guy from Apple stopped by the general magic office seeing what they were up to went back to his office and started drawing up notes!
Newton was not a disaster. The Newton led to the iPhone. I used a Newton for several years. It was useful to keep notes and appointments, calculations etc.
So… an A5 piece of paper?
it wasn't a smartPHONE, since it had no call function. First smartphone was made by IBM in 1995
Grandfather to the modern smartphone?….Psion 1984? Atari 1989? IBM Simon 1993 and all the others. Apple are never at the cutting edge it's too risky they just put polish on other people's ideas.
Do you have the video for the company that "almost became the iphone"?
When I started working as an engineer I was still finishing my MS. I started at "20 hours a week" lol which in engineer speak I found out really means 50 hours a week. (So with finishing the thesis probably like 75 hours total.) I just figured all engineers had to work like 12 hours a day. And 16 hours a day isn't unrealistic if a deadline is approaching. I find it strange someone would end it all over that. Just find a different job
It's a major failure from an inferior CEO.
I did'nt know Tommy Wiseau was doing scripts for commercials before diving into The Room
Watching this in my iPhone lol
I still have my MessagePad 2100 and I occasionally take it out of storage and astonish people with how advanced it was back then. The filing system used meant that every piece of data could be used by any app on the device. The handwriting recognition was nearly perfect and if Jobs hadn’t killed it, we would have had iPhones 10 years earlier than we did! There isn’t any amount of money I would give up my MessagePad for. It’s priceless technological history that in some ways is still more advanced that what’s available today!
I have around zero interest in tech, but there's something about this guy that draws me in and has me watching multiple videos on something I don't necessarily like watching videos of or learning about.
It's always the employees who suffered for those big dreams coming true.
Steven Seagal used this in Under Siege 2
"Eat up Martha"
Good story, but uses a LOT of General Magic video from David Hoffman's visits with the GM team
Old media clips are hillarious to watch, because I remember when they were 'cutting edge".
Sad
If you ever suffer pathetic conditions in a project like this just resign and let the idiot CEO figure it out on his own.
Their work wasn't a failure. As always, innovations of the past were the building blocks of what we have now. We'd be nowhere without this device.
I loved using the Newton. It was just an idea slightly ahead of it’s time.
It was fun and exciting seeing how technology was changing and to see it grow. Now is boring nothing is new . Just voice commands and Bluetooth stupid house items..
I think it was a great product, a visionary product, but perhaps just a little too far ahead of its time. If Apple stuck with it a bit longer it would have sped up the smart phone industry at an earlier date.
The Simpson’s sketch is modern “autocorrect”!
I still have my Newton today (2022) 🤣🤣
Every piece of tech needs a killer app. Imagine if the Apple Newton got a mp3 app for music… this would have been the start of a mini iPad… this would have sold huge .. the newton was definitely ahead of its time.
4:30 wtf is this. Was this an ad for a supervillian. "I have a simulation that shows spread of Sahara Desert"
Evil Supervillain "Nice, VERY NICE!'
And apparently according to this ad, the Amazon rain forest disappeared in 2002.
Makes u wonder a little about current models of climate change.
Basically the old iPads
I would say it all came down to browsing
Absolutely fabulous! I thought I was the only one who knew of that Knowledge Navigator video (there is another awesome business one)! I've looked for it since the 90's, a college roommate had showed it to me around this early 90s period and I've reflect on how much is in the iPad and Siri, etc, but I could never find it. Your thoroughness of research and story telling is superb. Your reinstalled – I also noted the dismay of the Facebook bit posted today, it was not worthy of you and NOWHERE near the level of this Newton piece! Keep up the good work.
Newton still looks 1000x more cool and desirable than even the newest iPhone.
