Post-grunge is widely considered the worst genre of rock. But is it? I talk about:
* The grunge bands like Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam
* First wave post-grunge like Bush, Candlebox, Stone Temple Pilots, and Silverchair
* Second wave post-grunge bands like Creed, Nickelback, Puddle Of Mud, 3 Doors Down and Staind
* Why people hate post-grunge so much, and if it’s truly the worst genre of rock

I have a friend who hates music mostly, he doesn't like iron maiden, bad religion, blink, wu tang, EDM, cannibal corpse, alestorm, Taylor swift, nirvana… Any genre you name, he hates EXCEPT…. Post grunge ha ha ha
Portugal loves nickelback!!! 😂
So PS2 game soundtracks like burnout 3
Is lazy generation by the f-ups considered grunge?
I always got the thought that many of these “post grunge” bands are milf music
Poor Creed. I feel bad for Scott. He had a much more difficult life than Cobain. I wouldn’t wish a childhood like his on my worst enemy. You should have done your homework before taking that swing at him and making such a ridiculous comparison. Thumbs down.
You exude your love for grunge – I think you buy into grunge WAY TOO MUCH. It’s every bit as cheesy as any other genre.
And I don’t think Nirvana speaks to anyone young these days. I see The Outfield getting more love than grunge.
I know they weren't mentioned much in the vid but I have to come to bat for my boys in Seether because they 100% have the necessary grunge elements that set them way apart from Nickleback and Creed. A short read through Shaun Morgan's history shows that he absolutely doesn't share the superficialities of most of their peers and a lot of his material comes from exceptionally dark life experiences.
I'm never going to say they were on the same level as Nirvana (who Shaun openly states he took influence from) but I think Seether took that and evolved it into something different.
Even Broken is something Shaun treated as a catch 22 given that Evanescence was a large part of the reason for that songs success (written for his daughter, was never meant to be a love song).
There was always going to be commercialised tracks given that record labels will do what they do to keep any modicum of success rolling.
I think Seether are wildly underrated and I definitely count them amongst my greatest influences if for no other reason than the brutal honesty of the music, not to mention they were my gateway into Metal.
Yes! The McDonalds of Rock genres. That nails it since most of these bands were cover bands and it shows in their material. 3 Doors Down was huge in the college towns they played in Florida in their cover band years in the mid 90’s.
Wait
Aren't these nu metal bands ?
I'm that guy thats still listening to all of this, and to add im a huge tool fan. Two things you rag on all the time, but im still a huge fan of this channel keep doing what your doing finn!!
I don't think post grunge holds up aswell, I am a fan of nickelback though. And I don't think nu metal is as bad as people say, in saying that I'm a big fan fan of Linkin Park
TBH seether is as close as nirvana we’ll ever get
post-grunge or whatever it is called is fucking awful. Creed and Nickelback make my skin crawl.
STP to me was a cross between contemporary hard rock and grunge and I think they get a lot of heat because they had more of a commercial hard rock sound but you can't deny that they were a real grunge band. And Staind were awesome. Period.
do you consider the first foo fighters album as a grunge or pust grunge album?
Nah the worst genre of rock is pop punk.
I have a hunch that Creed and Nickelback were the bands people turned to when the fads of Hootie and the Blowfish and Matchbox Twenty passed over.
7:08 Nobody could ever do a more cartoonish Eddie Vedder impression than Eddie Vedder.
I think Candlebox, Bush, Silverchair, and Everclear came early enough to be considered genuine Second Wave Grunge. Post-Grunge Rock followed, definitely being defined by Creed and Nickelback.
Collective Soul and Bush don't deserve to be lumped in with a lot of the others mentioned IMO… Neither were as formulaic as a Creed or Staind and to me fall into a similar "straight alt rock" category as the Smashing Pumpkins or Silverchair. Both good bands IMO
Also I'm no Nickelback fan but one of their early hits "Breathe" was pretty good… Like Sugar Ray they started out MUCH, MUCH heavier than the sound they went with after achieving some mainstream success.
This guy supposed to be an expert and he doesn't know Creed is a Christian rock band smh lmao not grunge and the biggest grunge sounding band is Pearl jam but you did t mention them at all
Wait, STP? IIIII don't know if I agree with them being put in this category lol
ahh post-grunge… u mean butt rock
4:38 strange I thought STP were part of the original grunge movement
7:58 personally I consider that the new wave of "alternative metal", in the post-Nu Metal days
Those bands like Seether, Three Days Grace or Breaking Benjamin
I love post-grunge, unfortunately grunge died out quite fast and post-grunge makes up for it.
Dude I love Ska, you can dunk on it all you want but nothing makes a trumpet more doot doot than excessive drug use.
Staind seemed more nu metal
Yeah, most aren't as good as Nirvana because most aren't as bad as Nirvana. Alice in Chains FTW.
I think people hate on it because it’s the cool thing to do, it got more mainstream so your purist really hated it. As far as listening goes it’s a lot softer and an easier listen to compared to the harder rock of grunge. As time goes on the people who only swore by grunge open up more to post grunge because there were some incredible songs and bands that came out.
Aw man, you do a hit job on poor Staind and then don't even mention them again…? xD I've kinda aged out of their demographic but they were important to me in my teens, and I reckon some of their tracks still stand the test of time. There's emotional depth there. (It's Been a While/Pressure/Outside, etc.) Nope, they don't have the same cultural significance and appeal as Nirvana & co. But I'll still come to Staind's defence…in the YouTube comments section haha.
My wife insists on playing the radio in the car. It's mind blowing that these channels survive while putting bands like Bush, Creed and Puddle of Mud on a continuous loop.
THEYRE A GUILTY PLEASURE FOR ME BABYYYY
You all can just nod and blindly agree or yall can have your own unique opinions
I had no idea there was an official name for this genre. Rather ironically I spent about 5 years living in Ohio and literally just called it Ohio rock, because I didn’t know what else to call it. And he is correct, it’s bad, but gets a worse reputation because of who listens to it.
Creed live @ Cowboys Stadium is 5 ⭐️ entertainment.
ever featuring Staind on one of your worst videos is actually a disservice. you need to spend more time looking up Mike Mushok dude…..
Funny you say what you said at the end. I've met a few people ranging from late teens to early 20s who said they wished they grew up with the post grunge style lol.
Three Days Grace never made sense to me. Had some of the best post grunge songs: I Hate Everything About You, Never Too Late, & Home
While also spitting out some absolute garbage after just 2 albums.
Ha ha I think I agree with the label ha ha 😂 😄
Grunge of any era is the worst era PERIOD !!!
I hate grundge, I PREFER post grundge. I actually like Creed as well as Nickleback
Grunge, post grunge or any other form of that shit, sucks!!! The 90's was the absolute worst decade for music!
The Default Theory of a Nickel Staind Puddle of Creed! That's my favorite band ever!
We called Bands like these "butt rock". Because it was easy to fart out a hit to those not used to anything better. Basically it appealed to the jocks and bullies at the time imo.
