Walt Disney made ambitious plans for a City of Tomorrow named E.P.C.O.T. just before his death in 1966, but the plans were soon abandoned. What were Walt’s ideas for his city of the future, what happened to the project, and would it have worked?

Considered a location in Baltimore?! That’s rich 😂😂
28:15 no lawn and no retirees?! In Florida? And he was tryna convince Boomers?! lmao
Everyone has to work according to their ability and no one can vote… says the man who hated communism
26:43 oh okay, that sounds about right
YouTube needs a function where you go to a page your subbed to, then go to search, where it only shows you videos of that sub you're under for results, then a "similar videos" line….
I love that venomous shift in tone when Kevin mentions Monsanto.
He would have built something between Fritz Lang's Metropolis, THX 1138 and a modern Atlantis.
The saw the radial design as something special and mind bogglingly new?
It is the most natural way of settlements coming to be: There is the marketplace, the village-green, in the center, and everything then slowly grows around it.
Take a look at Europe, that's how it goes. You see the memories of this everywhere.
The moment something like a giant mall is built onto the central marketplace/village green, is when the town dies. Like in my hometown in post-unification East Germany.
“Banning alcohol, tabbacoo, and woman to increase there productivity,”
Walt Disney just wanted North Korea. It already exists lmao
Literally the real life Vault-Tec society of tomorrow but above ground. With the same level of social engineering human test subjects
Walt's vision of Epcot reminds me of the DCP, in many ways 😂
Anyone else see a massive similarity to Tony's Stark's father's vision for "City of Tomortow" from the MCU?
Considering his hatred of Communism and his love of America, it's interesting that Walt wanted to be a dictator.
I'm reminded of the people on Kickstarter who try to get funding for revolutionary, world-changing ideas. Where people think "This is an amazing idea, I should make it!", without ever questionining WHY it doesn't exist.
i would love to see a video about world fairs from you
Walt Disney was so concerned about his legacy. Did he ever consider who was going to rule EPCOT after he died?
walt disney does fyre fest
I think if Walt had been able to make his city it would have failed and people would not look back on him as fondly as they do.
It would be cool to do an episode on Canada’s Wonderland 👀
"Why would I be mayor when I am already king?" Why does that sound exactly like something Kanye would say 😂
Too bad they went woke. Used to be a blast but now it's just a downer
I grew up in coal mine country. Towns like this can certainly exist, but they cant be like Disney imagined.
A super cool idea, but just not practical in the real world. Having short term tenants certainly could work, but the costs would be insane.
fuck the ego on this guy would make Elon Musk blush…
when unabashed capitalism comes all the way around to communism lol
I think he was ahead of his time, SOME of his ideas could make the world a better place but the whole dystopia city with big brother watching everything turns terrifying.
I just wish I’d be allowed to enjoy non-Disney stuff if I lived in this EPCOT.
complation of things ive seen walt compared to in this comment section:
– andrew ryant
– robert house
– elon musk
– charles foster kane
– a pokemon villain
– the average sims players
feel free to suggest more
1984 vibes. I see a lot of similarities with Hitler's vision of Germania. E.P.C.O.T. was a truly nightmarish vision of the future. Businessman or Dictator, the same people playing the same game wanting the same thing. Great video as always.
I had a very interesting experience watching this the other day. I fell asleep and woke up somewhere during the middle convinces for a second that I was watching ambiguous amphibian play cities skylines
