The Yugo is often described as the worst car of all time, but is it really?

I bought the Yugo 65 brand new in 1989. To be honest it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. In my defence I bought it on the fact it was a Fiat 127 DNA. Had it three years and struggled to sell it.
In Serbia during 2015 you could find them for $150 used. My father would buy them and drive them until they stopped and buy another one 😄
He drove one for almost a year without braking and it cost him $250 with registration 😄
Jameskii moment
Damn, seeing that thing merge onto the Aroyo Seco Parkway would have been cool
I have one on the side, and i had none of those issues, it works very well. Offroaded, smashed it and easily fixed that by hand, its good. Handbrake sucks though
The build quality was very inconsistent, so you could get an okay one or a lousy one.
Why you American says the Yugo its worst car, when people in ex Yugoslavia drive him 300k without any problem!
as someone who actually had to drive one back in the day (they were used on the ski hill I worked at) I can attest to the absolute HORRID build quality and mechanical quality…but hey, they were only 1800$ "fully loaded"
I loved my Yugo
it still works after 30-40 years???
The funny thing is that the Americans even got the better Yugos with air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, better sound insulation, more powerful engines, etc.
The Yugos in Europe are much worse than the ones in America.
Realmente es un fiat 128 corto…
Can you still buy a Yugo? They were not around for long, so
there can't be many of them.
My dad had one of these and he loved it. Definitely memorable
Torque steer. Could just be a poor design, but you will get the same steering/handling issues on/off the throttle in any fwd vehicle with bad motor mounts. Usually the axles will be wiped out as well.
now try trabant 601
Fun Fact: In Ex-YU, people always called each other “friend” instead of “mr.” and “mrs.”
Yugo was a vehicle people drove when they did not have money to buy a car. It was a joke even back then in YU. We all aspired to own a Golf 2 Diesel made at TAS in Sarajevo. Now that was a car you could pickup chicks with… 🙂
I owned a Renault LeCar in 89 which was just as bad as the YUGO. Horrible car.
what the abarth rimms dooin on that rofl
I owned one of these. The reviewers have it right. Worst car I have ever owned. Even worse than the AMC Hornet and I did not think that would be possible.
You guys are very brave gentlemen. There is no way in hell, I'd drive this car on a two way road much less a freakin' LA freeway.
Seeing this after watching jameskii add a pirete steering wheel and a canon to his yugo
I used to own one for fun,….. it is true. It's such a piece of crap. It's unbelievable. Every time I took it for a spin around the neighborhood, I ended up pushing it back home LOLOL
In some way the Yugo is kind of cool
Always a treat to see Sandro's Civic.
that was 0 to 60 in 3 business days
Well I guess that hood scoop answers your A/C question lol
Her in MI, Yugos gained notoriety when a gust of wind blew one of the Mackinac Bridge killing its driver.

A well-maintained and well-maintained car gives much better results, and you took a used car…
1989'ish I bought a new Isuzu Citation SUV from a small dealership who sold Isuzu and Hyundai.
My Isuzu at about a month old had a warranty claim. It was a great vehicle though and I never had another moments issue over 3 yrs.
However when I took it in the for the warranty work as a 'courtesy car' they pointed to a Yugo 45 ….. As I was late for a meeting in town I just took it and went back to my offices.
In my life I grew up around my father's major marque dealerships, before striking out on my own, however by 18yr old I was a fully qualified mechanic.
The Yugo was lethal …. Nothing worked, not the dash, not the brakes and the engine barely.
After my meeting I returned and had a 'conversation' … I left driving the managing directors own Isuzu Citation. In all my time and all the cars I have known …. The Yugo 45 was the worse made.
