  1. I'm legit happy to see sleep token go from so little of a following to such a big following. I discovered them when they were putting out decent but kinda small numbers. I'm happy to see them get good numbers. The more people who know about the band the better.

  2. I'm 51 and my first metal concert was Metallica back in the late 80s – Incredible. I watched Sleep Token last month at Wembley. Totally blown away 🤟 I've seen Metallica several more times over the years and when I buy their concert tickets, I know I'll be entertained for the next 2 hours no question. Watching Sleep Token gave me that same feeling when I left the arena. Hats off to them for hitting those figures..I respect that. It'll be interesting to see if ST will (like Metallica) be on top of their game several years down the line. I'm intrigued as to what their next album will sound like and what's in store for them next. Musically they're definitely talented, there's no denying that!! 🤟

  3. The math isn’t mathing. Take Me Back to Eden’s 3,131,019 monthly streams would equal 37,572,228 total streams for the year (3,131,019 X 12 months). The article instead says they had 357,324,681 streams for the year.

If their numbers are right about 72 Seasons, it beat Take Me Back to Eden by 189,629,879 streams for the year.

  4. I dont use Spotify so i think when looking at numbers these companies do need to start adding all platforms up. I know 2 people who use spotify my little brother and his girlfriend….

  5. This happens every now and then. A typical bandhype de-luxe. Mastodon was said to be "the new Metallica!" some years back, so, yeah…. That hype lasted as long as facial tattoos was a rear thing.

  6. When I first heard the singles I was really hooked but after a while, listening to them over and over again it didn't feel quite the same. And since they released so many singles, the album wasn't so new as a whole for me. Listened to it two or three times mabybe. I much rather listen to sundowning tbh

  7. If you achieved writing an memorable song and album within Heavy Metal
you've pretty much unlocked God Tier Mode as a musician.
Metal is the hardest genre in the world to get normal people to digest.

Really enjoyed Doc's angle and take on the band, he's a very intelligent musician.

  8. Interesting point Doc made about how different generations consume their music. I’m 41 and I only very recently subscribed to Spotify and stopped buying music on iTunes. And I probably stopped buying CDs only maybe 2-3 years ago. 🤔 I think Tool’s ‘Fear Inoculum’ is the last CD I bought. And that’s 2019. I think I got a Fallujah CD that same day. So yeah. That’s like 3-4 years ago.

  9. Unpopular opinion: I didn’t think Sleep Token’s new album was nearly as good as their first. But probably as good as their second. But still a good album. And probably more interesting than anything Metallica has done in 30 years.

  10. I’m ridiculously picky about music, especially metal. I can’t listen to 99% of songs because I pick them apart about the things they do wrong and could do better. I can’t find a single thing I’d dislike about ANY of the tracks in TMBTE.

    Album of the year.
    Album of the decade.
    Album of the century.
    Album of the millennium.

Try to name something better. I dare you.
I will tear it to pieces. Nothing else compares.

  11. I loved 72 Seasons cause I'm a huge Metallica fan. But Sleep Tokens TMBTE was definitely an welcomed experience. Such a variety of sounds and styles. Both are fantastic albums!

  12. I'm in my early 50s and we need bands like Sleep Token and Spiritbox to get young people to get excited about metal. I didn't just go from pop rock to metal in one day when I was a teenager. I needed a gateway into it. That gateway was Skid Row. And from there I got deeper and deeper into metal until I was listening to the hardest and most extreme stuff.

  13. I really cannot call that band a metal band when more than 90% of their music sounds like pop.
If they had no masks nobody would care.
