26 thoughts on “Bad Omens Singer Noah Sebastian’s Powerful Speech About Gatekeeping and Elitism

  1. Because their 3rd album is blowing up so much I’m guessing a lot of people are forgetting that they are a metalcore band at heart. Y’all should watch Noah’s interviews. He clearly states that he loves all genres of music & is very strict on writing things that he wants/feels. He even said The Weeknd is a very big influence on him vocal wise. He also states that “he really found his voice in this album” that’s telling me he’s matured in the sense that he can now really expand his vocal potential & create much more powerful music. But that doesn’t mean he won’t write songs that take him back to his roots ( screaming). In one of his twitch live streams he says he can “do it all” in terms of writing heavy or soft music. At the end of the day bad omens are just a very talented band who can mix up their sound & make it good! I saw them in Baltimore this past Friday & people were moshing to their more “radio friendly” songs like nowhere to go & like a villain. Why? Because again. They are a metalcore band at heart. In the rock/metal world , there’s always a few bands in each generation that blow up & bring in new fans into the overall genre, & I think bad omens & sleep token are this generation’s “rock/metal” bands to bring in even bigger & newer audience

  2. I just want to know if tik tok actual makes new fans or people are just adding a song to their video because its trendy. Like do they actually go "shit this is great" and go download the song and then try out more? Im sure some do but i feel like alot will just add the song because everyone else has it

  3. It's definitely a gateway I don't see how people learning about a song or artist from tik tok is a bad thing that's more exposure for artists all over the world that wouldn't get the recognition through the usually means from all genres too so it's a net positive

  4. There was always gatekeepers when I was 14 going to Norma Jean shows there was always that 30 year old making fun of the scene kids who were getting into the harder shit, now I’m older and I see people my age doing it and it’s so gross lol

  5. I agree to an extent but the new fans bad omens has got is stupid little girls who only know one song and think noah is cute that's it they could careless about the music or anything else I've been listening to them since 2016 all the new fans they got is from stupid tiktok and they are complaining about moshing and shit well don't bring your ass to a metal show or stay in the back simply as that I'm gonna see them in October and I hope I don't get one of those whiny girls by me cuz I mosh and I will not care if they like it or not and this is "Suppose" to be the generation to keep rock and metal alive when they only know one song and only listen cuz the lead singer is cute lmao this is why rock and metal is gonna die out 🤣😂

  6. I'm happy to hear he welcomes all fans and not just the heavy metal fans and I appreciate him
warning everyone what can happen (moshpit). He really cares for his fans safety

  7. Yep, I sure didn't expect them to have such heavy music before and I was a little chocked listening
their older songs. So when I went to their concert I already knew there would be moshpitting and
I better get a spot in the venue away from the moshpit……LOL

  8. Let’s open a conversation.

Gatekeeping can be good to hold bands to a standard that makes them so great.

It can also help with bands who become so big that the record label is too heavily involved in the music writing process ultimately leaving the band wishing they had written their own stuff instead causing disinterest and future projects all sounding too similar, eventually caving and becoming a shell of what they were.

I think there’s a middle ground somewhere. We have to find it. (Metal) Bands blowing up big for five years at a time isn’t good for them. They become a trend and die a trend and have issues later often leaving them wondering what went wrong.

  9. Swear metal fans can be the worst about gatekeeping bands. Soon as there favorite band drops a big song or just start to blow up, they almost get mad at the success of the band because these new fans weren’t there from the beginning like they were. At the end of the day, it’s music man. Just enjoy what you enjoy & let others have fun with a genre that they may be new to & haven’t experienced much of.
