Our F-18 squadron did this back in the 1980s for Hotrod magazine. I can't remember the car that was used to race our F-18 but the squadron was VFA-132.

Cool story bruh. But if the car went against a Mig 17 (or 15) it won't have an afterburner. You'd have to get a Mig 19 at least or a Mig 21 to get a jet with AB
That MiG has no real afterburner. MiG owner's simply burn much smaller amounts of fuel for a dramatic effect. Otherwise, a MiG18 is not much fun to see. Compared to a genuine afterburning turbojet aircraft it's pretty slow too, definitely not supersonic. Smoke and mirrors.
