31 thoughts on “Van Halen: Sammy Hagar SLAMS David Lee Roth’s ‘EMBARASSING’ Singing

  1. Jeez – this back and forth 'feud'' nonsense is STILL going on — how many years later ? Seems to me these 2 just want some public attention to keep their names & faces out there, with their best glory days behind them

  2. I don't know, nobody is perfect, I guess. I think this is the first time I have ever heard Sammy speak poorly of anyone. I always thought he was a straight-up good dude. I thought the only reason he ever said anything about VH was in defense of Michael Anthony. It does seem like the VH brothers (or at least Eddie) treated Michael Anthony poorly. Still, I don't care to do enough research to have a strong opinion on who the bad guy was. I grew up on the early VH music, and I do think the old stuff was the most exciting music they ever did. However, I do appreciate some of the great songs they did with Sammy, especially now that I am older.

As for who is a better singer, I think Sammy is technically a better singer, but I preferred Roth back in the early days. It wasn't necessarily because his voice was anythign special, but the attitude of the songs back then was appealing. Van Hagar seemed like a different band even though Eddie still largely defined the sound with his song writing and his playing. Overall, the sound was darker and more serious. As for the present, Sammy is probably right that DLR is not singing well. I don't think Roth can hit the notes very well these days.

  3. sammy's always been salty. david has what he could never have….the it factor….sammy hagar's a better technical singer, no doubt about it, but has about 5% of the charisma and i couldnt pick his voice out of a lineup, cant say the same for DLR

  4. I grew up listening to VH from my parents. They played a good mix of both…however…not knowing that there were two different lead singers I fell in love with more Van Hagar songs then with DLR. Sammy has that something extra in his voice and the sound had something extra then it ever did with DLR. That’s just me.

  5. Dave also had a solo career.
I listen to just like paradise, yankee rose,a lil aint enough, its showtime, drop in a bucket, tell the truth,if 6 was 9 all the time..They are all from dave solo project.
But I don’t know of one sammy hagar song from his solo career apart from driving55 or whatever that shit is.
Dave writes great rock and roll songs because he is rock and roll.
Sammy writes dad rock songs and his stage moves sometimes feel like he is trying to be DLR atleast early on when he joined Van halen.

  6. Dave always had a old school singing voice, i mean from the 40's – 50's like a crooner, different especially for rock.
Sammys voice makes me think of a old dried up burn out hobo.
    1984 album 💯

  7. Listen to Roth and listen to Hagar live, and you will see that Sammy is 100% correct. Roth has never been good live, even in his prime. Sammy is still great even now at 75.
I should note that as far as studio songs go, I like the Roth songs better. But that is just song preference.

  8. Talk talk talk. It's old by now. David is cool. Who cares what Sammy does thinks or does? We either love em hate or em or don't think about em but rivalries get old fast.

  9. Never liked Hagar. Never liked his voice or persona. Had to laugh remembering that first co cert without Dave. They were last to play that night. Hagar came out trying to be cool..more than half of the audience left. Iwas one of them.

  10. A lot of singers lose their voice with age. Some are lucky, some are not. As for Sammy… he might still be able to sing/scream, but Diamond Dave will ALWAYS be the man, hands down ❤

  11. It's true. Dave's Singing has gotten pretty bad. It's not quite as embarrassing as the awful music that Van Halen made with Sammy Hagar.

  12. Not that Sam would read this or care to, but Roth was part of something from nothing that was as good as it comes. Montrose 1st record with Sam on it is better than average. Sam's solo stuff isn't all that, or am I missing something.. not!

Sam's real legacy is from Van Hagar, and without Roth, Sam would of never been anything more than Can't driving 55.. come on now!!!!

  13. I love Sammy. But man… He needs to stop downing DLR. They both had great success with Van Halen & Solo. Dave's solo videos were epic in the 80's, Sammy's was filmed in a courtroom with him jumping on the furniture. And to say… Kinda a big album… Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan were next level players and concert performance. I love Sammy… But i am sick of the rock bands acting like WWE banter interviews between matches.
