36 thoughts on “Richie Sambora on Bon Jovi’s Voice Struggles and Possible Reunion

  1. I hope Jon's voice can recover, but at this stage of the game, artists come up with new songs and new stylings to match their current voice octaves; everyone's voice declines in time — Jon's still trying to sing tunes they wrote on a first album. You just can't match that intensity every single show. I will always be a fan but you have to be realistic, too.

  2. He songs better than Jon .. his voice is shot … I think his hearing is part of the problem ❤ poor dude … but get a doctor to help or just quit singing.. play guitar and let Richie sing❤

  3. Part of the problem with Jon's voice is that he's singing Richie's parts of some songs. Even the crazy high notes Richie does in Livin' On a Prayer. I love Phil X, but he's not really a vocalist and so Jon just does it all. It makes touring hard because he's straining his vocal chords from going outside his range. If Richie comes back and sings his parts in songs again, Jon's voice will improve over time. The key is for him to stop harming his vocal chords. If Richie doesn't come back Jon's voice will get worse because he's too stubborn to try to find a second singer to just do Richie's parts.

  4. Grace Slick gave an interview back in the early 90's. During that interview, she was asked if Starship had any plans for a reunion tour. Her answer was nothing short of sublime. "There is nothing more pathetic that someone my age jumping around on stage trying to act like they're 25 again".

Its rather apparent that many aging rockers didn't read this interview.

  5. I listened to a few of the excerpts of online shows and it was pretty rough. In any band that has been around for years as Bon Jovi, the singer is the one that has the toughest time hitting what they used to, especially the high notes and screams. Unless other bandmates get arthritis, sick or abuse drugs and alcohol, they can usually keep on for much longer. I'm just throwing this out there, but they could do what Journey did to keep it going if Jon can't deliver what he used to. Again, just an "if". Sure, the band name is Bon Jovi, but it is an entity that encompassed the name, the sound, the songs, all of the people that created that sound. That remains no matter who is up front, as it did with Journey OR Foreigner, etc… Check out a guy in Australia named Tib Horvath, singing Bed of Roses on YouTube with Sing It Live… That's like what it would take, IF they wanted to go down that road. I've loved this music for years and hope it continues!

  6. Respect for John. He Has been Belting out tunes since 1990 . And Paul Stanley Has Been Belting Out Tunes Since 1973 . KISS Took Bon Jovi on the 1st Jovi Tour

  7. If you watch interviews with John… Richie really caused a lot of turmoil in his life… Due to drugs and alcohol. John decided to not have him with them anymore because of the turmoil he caused.

  8. I think it's the only way for Bon Jovi to get a kick on in this phase if their careers. I reckon Richie can also take over some vocal duties..he sings leads very well anyway and can perhaps cover 30% of the set list that way.

  9. For the fans? Lol it's money and nothing else! Sick of these musicians refuse to admit they're done for good. Jon isn't just struggling, he is incapable of singing!

  10. What people need to realize is that Richie can maintain a solo career on his own as am all around complete musician and artist.
He has certain "goods" that Jon doesn't anymore and the fact of the matter is Jon /Bon Jovi needs Richie more than Richie needs Bon Jovi!

  11. Dude, it’s over. His voice is gone and Richie has never fully addressed his alcoholic tendencies. This will be painful to watch. “For the fan’s” is BS, if that’s the case, then charge $5 a ticket.

  12. If Jon sincerely was thinking about the fans, he would've issued refunds for those horrendous shows. That would prove it was about the fans. What I see is greed & pride. I really like Richie. We all personally don't know how that "firing" went down but Jon seems to have turned out to be an arrogant a$$. Maybe, he always was. Yeah, Richie deserves a nice paycheck but I'm wondering if Jon didn't contact him to pick up the slack & lack of vocals to do yet another tour? We all know Richie can sing. Right now, I question all of Jon's motives. Another proof that "he's doing it for the fans" would be a cost reduction in the price of tickets. Yeah, we'll see how that goes. Love ya, Richie. You deserve better!

  13. I know this is a little hokey but, it would be awesome if Jon and Richie got in the gym started taking care of themselves top to bottom and came out with a new record and tour and take the world by storm!!!👍😊

  14. I'm a subscriber to a channel called "Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy." He's a vocal coach and often does reviews of live singing.

He's reviewed some of Jon Bon Jovi's struggles, and according to Mr. Tamplin, it's a matter of learning proper vocal techniques.

He can tell by watching clips of Jon singing live, that it's not a matter of his voice being "gone" or "ruined."

He just never learned safe and healthy singing techniques that allow one to keep singing at a high level for many years.

I wish Jon would invest in some vocal lessons, as I think he has plenty of years left in him. He's not that old, after all.

Anyway, I just thought I'd add that to the conversation.

I'm a lifelong Bon Jovi fan and wish only the best for those guys. I'm also pumped to hear that Richie might be coming back.

    Have a good one.
