Bands like Guns N’ Roses and Mr. Bungle have recently dealt with drones flying directly up to the stage [and above it]. Will drones distract from live performances the same way that cell phone cameras did in the mid-2000s?

38 thoughts on “Bands vs. Drones

  1. I'm all for taking photos and videos at concerts these days due to ticket prices being ridiculous. But drones don't belong, could seriously hurt someone. Not even if it's the bands photographer operating it.

  2. We have enough footage of bands while they’re playing live, I think we can live without the one more angle from a drone. Plus going above the stage and in that area, it can be dangerous possibly with pyro going off, or any kind of production taking place. It’s like laser pointers, just annoying little shits.

  3. People are being stupid using a drones on a concerts . Nobody wants to see your dam drone flying in your way while you are trying to watch the concerts and the band doesn't need a distraction while they are preforming . Use common sense . OMG.

  4. I started flying a drone earlier this year. There's no way I would fly it around a stage during a concert unless the band had hired me to shoot footage of their show.
There are a fair amount of places where drones are not allowed. I can fly mine in this big field at this park near my house. But flying it over The Prison across the road is a big NO-NO and would bring alot of heat down on me from The Bureau of Prisons, The Cops, and the FAA!!

  5. Rotor blades on the drones can seriously damage and cut the performers face, arms, etc. A crazy disgruntled fan could harm you easily with one of these. Keep them out of concerts for sure.

  6. When you go to a concert you are paying for a spot inside the venue so therefore you have paid for your own personal space and should have the right to use a phone or anything else as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else's personal space. A drone is flown in the sky and as far as I know the use of the sky or air is not something you have to pay for yet so I'm kinda torn on this. On one hand you are interfering with the bands personal space if you fly it right up to the stage so that is not right but on the other hand if you fly it at a range where you're not interfering with anyone or anything then I don't see the harm in it. The biggest issue is recording the performance because it's usually illegal to record something unless you are authorized to do so. My biggest question about all of this is HOW IN THE HELL CAN YOU SNEAK A DRONE PAST SECURITY AND I FEEL SECURITY NEEDS TO STEP UP THEIR GAME.

  7. Maybe the bands could dedicate a few minutes and let the drones come up. Then when the time is up no more. Like how the Grateful Dead let people bootleg with recorders and mics.

  8. I can see the frustration if you're not authorized etc, but omg that footage looks sick. I'd def hire a drone camera team to film a live show for my group.

  9. Now they're gonna have to check bags for guns . . . and drones. Like wtf is wrong with people?! It's dangerous . . .and it would be illegal according to US laws if the drone is large enough. They all have IS numbers etched if they're over a certain size. Hard to tell how large the two in question are from the angles I have seen, but if they're over the size that requires US registration, those people would be arrested for violating federal laws.

  10. If someone flies a drone right up to the stage, they are an asshole. They need to keep a very long stick or pole to knock these things out of the air. Spray em with acid or something.

  11. Imagine an authorised drone with a 100k camera on it being taken down cos some idiot was flying theirs around the gig. Or an unauthorised drone hitting Pink on the wires at one of her shows. Not a lawsuit I would want to be on the receiving end of! XD

  12. Here we see a clear case of how intrusive it is with a drone, as little as it is, it’s somewhat an dystopian picture on what we have install for the future with A.I now entering the markets. It’s gonna get worse. It was never "winter is coming” it was just a precursor to The Robots Are Coming😅
