There’s just too much child labor in the U.S. for Hyundai. The Korean automaker is severing ties with its American subsidiaries. Because children as young as 12 were found working at two Alabama plants. Now it’s investigating dozens of other locations in its U.S. supply chain for similar practices

We’re they colored kids ???
And they will pay said children 7.25 $ and say that is fair because adults get paid the same.
China been doing this
This is even more of reason to mandate UAW representation in all automotive plants in north america!
ofc it's the red nazirate states
What parent let their 12 year old be used like that?
People trying to take jobs away from americans
Hey, man, we start ‘em young here baby!
Absolutely fantastic. In confederate states , child labor is normal to them
You know what those kids were the bread winners in their house and you just got them fired. Good job
We have an open border to thank for providing the child labor
Kids here in the US working at 12 that's crazy.
And Usa dare to sanction Malaysia gloves product?
There's no damn way 12 year olds are working in a factory. If you said a small family run business or on a farm I'd believe you. But not in a factory.
Kids gotta pay rent too
hun-day?
hi-yun-die
…but like I used to deliver papers… did it pay better than that. Made like .5 dollars an hour. And this was like 20 years ago. So. How much was the kid making. And how dangerous was it?
I've never met anybody whose face and voice both annoy me
For a second I thought it meant "too expensive"
bro i would have loved to work for free in a plant as a kid to learn a trade early on this is kinda stupid and we need mire context
Wow .. the land of the free hey ? 😅
It was probably the owners kids or some shit you know how many local mom and pop shops have their underage kids helping out? Probably the only time they get to spend with their kids…yea chew on that
Phil, I am surprised you are not adding more to that. Are they not getting reported?
There after school jobs, but that is from 16, isn't it?
How was that allowed?
This never made mainstream news. It's the first time I've heard about this. Go figure that this would happen in a red state where they care so much about life, and protecting kids.
Been working since i was eight.
Child labor in the modern era? You can thank the Cult of Ayn Rand and Milton Friedman for that.
A yes Alabama
Depending on the situation and what the job was most States have a law around the age of 14 being young enough to start work. I personally think that a teenager either having a job or an extracurricular is a needed element. Though 12 In a car factory does seem very concerning
What the phuck?
Never did I think I would hear child labour in America 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Give me a break. They do horrible things to children in many locations and many many bussinesses!
This is why people shouldn't say "America is a free country"!
That’s why these cars are crap.
Good
kids wanna work more than adults do nowadays im not surprised this happen.
If you ate today, thank a child farmer. Every family farm in the country has kids working.
“How much you give for the new guy… 20$.. noo that’s too much mooney”
99% chance these are the children of undocumented/illegal migrants
Bruh I bet someone just said ya your kid can work here,I highly doubt they were employed by the company and I bet money they were just paid under the table because they really wanted to work there and someone in upper management was like ok and being exposed probably lost them their job and cost that location a lot of money just because "a" singular kid wanted to start working early.
Alabama? Your Hyundai has a wheel in the ditch
The US really is a 3rd world country.
oh snap is it real?
Lol
Alabama… quite surprising
Tbh who even cared about Hyundai
How?
An Asian company cutting ties with American factories for child labor what the hell is going on
I think the consent issue is the biggest problem here. Kids that age will do anything to fit in, so it's hard to judge if anything they do is really of their own will and not because they're trying to meet a real or imagined expectation. If there was a rigorous way to ensure they were there of their own will, I don't see the problem with kids working. But since that's so hard to determine from the outside, I say it's better to assume there are unacknowledged external pressures and discourage working so young.
I don't feel like many 20 or even 30 somethings have done enough reflection to really be making their own decisions and not following whatever were the expectations foisted on them by their upbringing, so I don't think age is a good metric for judging consent in general. If they're sound minded, put the 5 year olds to work, I just think it's unlikely any 5 year old is, and it's the responsibility of the ostensibly sound minded to protect those who are not from abuse.
