  1. ❤ that store was fun. Are family did visit the one in Times Square. Too bad that it couldn't keep up with Amazon though. Markets change; demand changes. Wish the store changed with everything else .❤

  2. Growing up, going to just a local Toys R Us was extremely rare for us. They were cool but even at a young age I always hated that it was more expensive to shop there than Walmart.

  3. I was an 80's kid. We lived an hour north and would school clothes shop in a big city mall once or twice a year. We'd ask to go to Toys R Us and Chuck E Cheese but I don't think my parents ever took us to either. lol. We lived in a decent size town already with two malls of it's own. It just didn't have a Toys R Us or Chuck E Cheese. It had a very small KB toys. Also, both Target and KMart where there at the time and had toy isles and video game isles. KMart lasted there for a long time up until Covid finally put the last nail in the coffin in 2019. It wasn't until I was older that I went to one of the Toys R Us stores. That was in the early 2000's. Unfortunately I agree with a lot of the comments in that it was both dirty and overpriced compared to other options. By then it was competing with internet stores. The one advantage it had was amount of physical choices. I would shop there on occasion but my kids never really asked to go. Kids are just different today then when I was a child. As soon as they get phones and electronics they don't really want toys anymore. On top of that they can find anything they want on-line without ever having to go to a store. I was lucky enough to be able to take my children to both the Toys R Us in Time Square and the FAO Schwarz several times.

  4. Toy R Us in Canada was also affected with a few store closings but never went bankrupt. The stores still thrive in most Canadian cities as a big box retailer and online retail operation. Toys R Us Canada are owned by entirely different people form those in the US. I do not know why Toy R Us would even consider building a store in super overpriced NYC leasing market. There is no way any business can make profit unless they are peddling overpriced junk and rags to gullible shoppers.

  5. I was lucky enough to be able to frequent the times square toys r us for basically its entire existence, this whole video brought back so many fun memories, thank you

  6. Blowing my mind to learn that this place only existed for 14 years. It was such a staple of my childhood and every visit to the city. I thought it was something that had been there forever…..or at least since the 80s or something. I have a lot of great memories of this store
